Bolyard, Mester, Morgan win at Missouri
Jason Mester, Ty Morgan and David Bolyard all won their classes. They competed at 141, 149 and 157 pounds respectively. CMU came into the meet as the No. 14 team in the nation.
Mester upset Oklahomas Nate Parker, who is ranked No. 2 in the nation at 141. He then beat sixth-ranked Coyte Cooper from Indiana to win the meet.
I felt we got off to a good start, said Head Coach Tom Borrelli. We had three champions out of 10 weight classes.
Several of the top teams in the nation participated, including four teams ranked in the Top 20. Those teams were Indiana, Oklahoma, CMU and host Missouri. The meet took place at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
Sophomore Jason Borrelli finished second at 133 and Alex Lammers took fourth at 184, while Russ Vanderheyden took fifth in the same class.
125-pounder Kyle Stoffer finished in fifth at 125 while Brad Anderson took sixth at 165.
Mester came into the meet as the No. 15-ranked wrestler in his class, while Morgan and Bolyard were 13th and 12th. The only other ranked athletes is senior Jordan Webster No. 8 at 133 who is out for the season with a knee injury.
The team will be off for Thanksgiving break until Dec. 3 when it wrestles at No. 11 Michigan State.
That meet will begin at 7 p.m. at East Lansings Jenison Field House. MSU defeated Central at Rose Arena last season 18-16 when senior Chris Williams beat Jason Borrelli in a 5-2 match to end the meet.
We are definitely looking forward to our next matches at MSU and home against Cleveland State, Tom Borrelli said.
MSU beat No. 19 Hofstra 21-16 in Hempstead, NY.
Bolyard will be matched up with MSUs Gray Maynard, who is ranked fifth in the nation.
