Freese looks for historic win against SW Missouri State

Head Coach Cristy Freese is one win away from becoming the winningest field hockey coach in school history.

Freese has had the chance to pick up the win the last two matches, but walked away with losses to defending national champion Michigan and No. 8 Michigan State.

“I would like to get it over with so everyone else can get over it,” Freese said. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to coach here for so long. The most important thing about this weekend is that we come out with a 5-2 record.”

The Chippewas play in St. Louis against the Southwest Missouri Bears and the St. Louis Billikens on Saturday and Sunday.

CMU has been practicing in attempt to fix some mistakes seen on the game films.

“We have been working a lot on our individual defense,” Freese said. “The key for us is to get back to our passing game and we need to score some goals.”

Scoring goals has been a problem of late. CMU has been shut out its last two contests.

“Our forwards want to score goals and we have been able to see some of our weaknesses these last two games that we couldn't see playing teams like Pacific,” Freese said. “We know we must be more composed on defense to win.”

The Chippewas return home for a MAC game on Oct. 10.
