Field hockey getting ready for conference

Today the Chippewas play No. 12 Northeastern (4-0). The Temple Owls (1-4) are coming off an upset over No. 14 Hofstra. Three of Temple’s four losses have come against top 10 teams.

“I think that both of these teams came in to play a tough Michigan team,” said Head Coach Cristy Freese. “Then they think they are going to have an easy win against us.”

The Chippewas look to play a tough, physical game.

“In both of these games, we will have to play a game similar to the physical Big Ten style of play,” Freese said. “As a team, we have really been working and I think we are ready to come out and play tough and both teams we are not a push over.”

CMU is 5-0 when it scores a goal and averages 2.28 goals per game.

“If that’s the stat, then I guess we need to score,” Freese said. “We must put a lot of physical offensive pressure on both teams. We need to show we can score every game.”

The Chippewas have never played Northeastern or Temple.

“Northeastern is a good team, and they have been to the NCAA Tournament many times, and they are always a top team,” Freese said. “I don’t think that Northeastern has played as tough of a schedule as Temple.”

With the non-conference schedule coming to a close, the Chippewas would like to end on a good note.

“We have been really focused in practice. The good thing is that with every different game, each team has had such a different style of play and that really helps us out in the long run,” Freese said.
