Spencer verbally commits to CMU

Jay Smith and the CMU men’s basketball program are already looking to the future.

Eddie Spencer from Muskegon Heights High School verbal committed to play at CMU in the 2003-04 season.

“He is a slasher and has the ability to score the ball very well,” said Lamar Chapman, Spencer’s high school coach.

Spencer is 6’5”, 175 pounds heading into his senior year at Muskegon Heights.

“He is very athletic and can create a lot on the perimeter and in transition,” Chapman said.

As the team’s center, Spencer averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds en route to being named first-team All-State in his junior year.

Chapman said Spencer will probably play the small forward spot for the Chippewas.

“He will be comfortable out of the wing,” he said.

Spencer was named co-team MVP as he helped Muskegon Heights make it to the state semi-finals.

“He is a competitor; he works hard and loves to win and compete,” Chapman said.
