DeBord also has three returning seniors in 6’1” 270-pound tackle Marvin Smith, 6’2” 250-pound end Cullen Jenkins and fellow 6’3” 260-pound end Matt Reynolds.

All three are returning four-year starters.

“I have matured over all the hard lessons that we have learned over the years. We have taken what we have learned and applying it to this year,” Smith said.

Smith had 68 tackles last season, fifth highest on the team.

He had 21 career tackles for losses of 64 yards.

The fourth starter on the defensive line this season is junior Jay Davidson.

Backing them up are junior Ike Ajoku, sophomores William Brookshire and Matt Wohlgemuth. Sophomore Kalani Muragin and true freshman Anthony Thompson also will see playing time.

The Bill Boyden Leadership Award winner, Smith said the team has the talent and depth it hasn’t had in the past along as it avoids injuries.

“The key is definitely for us all to stay healthy. Not just the defensive line but the whole defense,” he said.
