Head Coach Kathleen Raske took a group of ten top athletes to the Texas Relays which began Wednesday and will continue until Sunday at the University of Texas.

“We’re looking for solid performances down here to take advantage of these great conditions,” Raske said. “We think we can get some athletes to qualify for nationals.”

As for the rest of the team, they will be competing in the Notre Dame Open on Saturday and Sunday. They will be competing against athletes from Notre Dame, Western Michigan and Michigan State.

Last weekend, the team had some unexpected time off from competition as snowfall caused the team to pull out of the Purdue Open.

In Texas, sophomore Jackie Bozin and senior Maria Derezinski will be competing in the first outdoor heptathlon competition of the season.

“There is some great competition down here and that will push some of our athletes,” Raske said.

The competition includes athletes from Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Miami and a host of other major conference teams.

Other athletes competing in Texas include seniors Kari Karhoff and Amber Bright, who will compete in both the 400-meter hurdles and the 1600m relay with junior Kia Johnson and freshman Jenni Roberts.

Raske thinks the team should be read to post good performances this weekend.

“We had the ability to train all last weekend since we didn’t go to Purdue. Our teams should be ready to compete well this weekend.”
