Jackson named 'Darkhorse'
CMU sophomore halfback Terrence Jackson was named the “Heisman Darkhorse” by The Sporting News in the 2002 Heisman Trophy race from the Mid-American Conference.
The 6-0, 230 poinder finished the 2001 season rushing for more then 100 yards in seven of the last eight games, and totalling 1,194 yards. Jackson earned second team All-Mac honors last season.
Cheerleaders ninth at nationals
The CMU Cheerleading squad finished ninth this past weekend in the 2002 College Cheerleading adn Dance Team National Championships at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
The Chippewa Squad is coached by Amanda Hoppert. William Patterson College won the competition in the small coed division.
Athletes shining in the classroom
CMU student atheletes shined in the classroom fall semester. Fifty-four percent made the honor role with a grade-point-average of 3.00 or higher.
There are nearly 400 student athletes at CMU and they averaged 3.09 in the classroom. The softball team led the way with a team GPA of 3.39.
A total of 114 athletes made the Dean’s List of 3.50 or higher and 14 had a 4.00.
The Chippewas had 58 student-athletes made either the Academic All-MAC or the MAC honor role.
