Gymnastics competes at N. Illinois
The gymnastics team takes on Northern Illinois, Sunday in search of its first MAC win.
The meet begins at 2 p.m. Central time at Chick Evans Field House.
If we cant handle Northern Illinois, its going to be a long season for us, Head Coach Jerry Reighard said.
Central 0-2 in the MAC and 1-3 overall has not defeated a team since, Jan. 4. Yet, Reighard is optimistic about this season.
By no means are we down and out, he said. We are still confident that we can pull together and win.
The adversity the team is going through will only make them better, Reighard said.
CMU lost to Bowling Green Saturday 194.225 to 192.2.
Freshman Kara Reighard finished with a career-high 38.8 in the all around competition. She also placed third on the vault with a 9.65 and tied for second with a career-high 9.825 on the balance beam.
Junior Michele Orloski and senior Sarah Nelson scored a 9.8 on floor exercise and bars.
Freshmen Sara Burtinsky and Shanna Duggan posted career-highs on balance beam with scores of 9.85 and 9.825 respectively.
The Chippewas scored a season best 48.8 on floor exercise and sophomore Tiffani Berra tied a career-high with a 9.8.
Jerry Reighard said the teams strongest lineup will be in place against the Huskies.
Northern Illinois is (0-1 MAC, 1-3) got its first win against Wisconsin-La Crosse 185.9 to 180.4, but lost to Southeast Missouri State who finished with a score of 188.650.
The teams highest score of the season is 188.225 in a loss against Western Michigan. NIU also lost to Michigan 194.9 to 186.6.
Freshman Kristina Campos scored a season best 37.625 in the all around and placed third on bars with a score of 9.6.
Junior Laura Hale scored a 9.65 on balance beam and finished second in the all-around with a score of 37.6.
