The Chippewas open up with Canada G.T. Express at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

“I am pretty excited about starting the season,” said senior guard David Webber. “We have a lot of talent this year. We need to come together as a team, and have guys be unselfish and put their individual goals aside. If we do that we are going to be very successful.”

CMU is predicted to finish first in the Mid-American Conference West Division receiving 270 points and 30 of the possible 49 first place votes. Ball State, Toledo, Western, Northern Illinois and Eastern all followed CMU in the polls.

“Expectations are totally different this season,” said CMU Head Coach Jay Smith. “We have never been in this position before.”

In the East Division, Kent State is predicted to repeat. The Golden Flashes received 313 points and 31 first place votes. Followed by Marshall, Ohio, BGSU, Miami, Akron and Buffalo.

Predictions for the MAC Tournament have Kent State coming out on top with 19 votes, followed by CMU with 10.

“I think any one of about ten teams could when the MAC,” Smith said.
