Rose will 'Jam' under 'Moon' light

Put the yellow shirts on and have some fun at Moon Jam, at 10:30 p.m., tonight

Moon Jam is the official start of men’s and women’s basketball practices.

With the start of the season still over a month away, Moon Jam allows the fans to meet the teams.

“It is really more of a festival for the student body and the team to have some fun,” said Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jay Smith.

Moon Jam gates will open at 10 p.m. In between 10 and 10:30 p.m. students are able to sign up to become a Rose Rowdie. Also they are able to sign up for contests that will be held that evening.

The first 500 people to attend will receive free Dominos Pizza.

The Chipettes, and the band will also perform throughout the evening.

MTV’s DJ Skribble will perform throughout the evening. Both the men’s and the women’s teams will perform skits.

The fun truly starts at Midnight. That is when the teams can officially start activities.

The defending regular season Mid-Amercian Conference Champions will be competing in a dunking contest, while the women will be having a three-point contest.

“I will be up in the stands the whole night, this is the players time not my or the coaches’ time. It is a night for the players to bond with the students,” Smith said. “It is a good way for us to thank the student body for believing in us last year.”

For the women’s team it will be a chance for the student body to be introduced to the new coaching staff. This will be the first Moon Jam for Eileen Kleinfelter and staff.

“The goal of Moon Jam is to excite the crowd and kick off the season. (It is an opportunity) for us to introduce the teams to the crowd and start the season off on a positive note,” said Ty Chapman marketing assistant for Athletics.
