CMU takes 16th at pre-nationals

The men’s cross country team ran at Pre-Nationals in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday. The team was 16th of 37.

Colorado won the Chippewas race while Notre Dame was second and Air Force third.

The Chippewas had some injuries to Don Wilkins, who has a leg injury and Kevin Sule who was unable to finish the race.

“We kind of shot ourselves in the foot. There were two or three teams in front of us who we wanted to beat,” said CMU Head Coach Craig Fuller.

Those teams were Mid-American Conference foe Miami (OH), Florida State and Loyola-Chicagp.

“For as poorly as we performed we still came out beating a lot of teams,” Fuller said.

Rick Bauer led the Chippewas finishing 16th (24:46). Flynn was 52nd (25:24), while Dave Ernsberger finished 62nd (26:17).

The Chippewas travel to Eastern Michigan in two weeks for MAC Championships.

“Hopefully we can knock off Miami (OH),” Fuller said. “We are hoping for some better performances.”
