Stabley named president of CoSIDA
CMU sports information
director Fred Stabley Jr., was recently chosen
to be the president of the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Stabley was picked during the annual CoSIDA Workshop
in St. Louis, Mo., June 30.
Before taking over the CoSIDA
presidency, Stabley has served on the board for the past four years; two
years as a university division representative and two years as the third
and second vice-president.
Don Helinski, Central's assistant SID, said Stabley's
selection brings a lot of credibility to the school.
"His selection says a lot - that Central has a leader
in the field, setting new guidelines and standards in the sports information
industry." Helinski said.
"He has mentored over 10 students, including me, who
have gone on to become professionals in the sports information and public
relations fields."
On Aug. 30, Stabley will start his 19th year of service
with CMU.
CoSIDA has a membership of more than 1,800 people and
includes SIDs from Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior colleges in North
America.
"It's a great honor for CMU, the Mid-American Conference
and me to be president," Stabley said in a press release.
"It has special meaning for me because my father (Fred,
Sr.) was a founding father of CoSIDA and also served as its president."
The late Fred Stabley, Sr. was the SID at Michigan
State from 1948-80 and served as the CoSIDA president in 1958-59.
Other officers on the board for 2000-2001 are first
vice-president, Pete Moore (Syracuse); second vice-president, Alan Cannon
(Texas A & M) and third vice-president, Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt).
The 2001 CoSIDA Workshop is July 1-4 in San Diego.
