Wilholt resigns as assistant coach
The members of the young Central volleyball team will grow without its former assistant coach Teri Wilholt.
Wilholt, who was set to enter her third season with the team, resigned from the team on May 25.
"She (Wilholt) wants to pursue other interests," Head Coach Elaine Piha said. "She wanted to move out of the coaching field and see what else comes her way."
Wilholt was a former Chippewa volleyball player from 1990-1993 and was a co-captain her senior season.
Wilholt played 324 games during her career and is seventh in the Chippewa record books with 905 career digs. She averaged 1.71 kills and 2.79 digs in her career.
In her duties as assistant coach, Wilholt worked primarily with the outside hitters and served as the recruiting coordinator.
Senior Associate Athletics Director Marcy Weston said the move was unexpected, but there was no negativity in Wilholt's decision.
"We are sorry to see her leave," Weston said. "She did a good job for us and the athletes enjoyed her. She brought a real positive attitude to the team."
Before coming back to Central for the 1998 season, Wilholt coached volleyball at Grandville High School in 1995 and was the volleyball program director at the USA Sportsplex in Grand Rapids in 1996 and 1997.
Wilholt's position is posted in Centraline, Central's job posting newsletter, "Centraline."
According to Centraline, the person who assumes the job will start Aug. 1.
Wilholt was unavailable for comment at press time.
