Central Michigan gymnastics defeated Illinois State 194.95 to 194.075. The win moves the Chippewas to 6-2 on the season. The Floor for the Chippewas this week was the key in this meet setting a season best score of 49.475
Vault
The Chippewas came out strong on vault scoring a season high 48.975. All of the gymnasts scored a 9.75 or higher. Four gymnasts scored a 9.8 or higher. Junior Katy Clements led the way for the Chippewas with a 9.825. After the first rotation the Chippewas led the Redbirds 48.975 to 48.250. The Chippewas moved to bars and the Redbirds moved to vault.
Uneven Bars
Led by junior Bryttany Kaplan’s season best 9.9, the Chippewas scored a 48.275 while Illinois State scored a 48.55 on vault. Seniors Rachel Carr and Caroline Fitzpatrick also scored a season best 9.85 on bars. After the second rotation the Chippewas led the Redbirds 97.25 to 96.8. CMU went onto the balance beam and Illinois State went to floor.
Balance Beam
Senior Shaila Segal led the Chippewas in beam, scoring a 9.775. Sophomore Gianna Plaksa scored a 9.75. The Chippewas finished the event with a 48.225. Illinois State scored a 48.95 on floor. Going into the final event the Chippewas trailed Illinois State 145.75 to 145.465
Floor
The Chippewas set a season best score on floor with a 49.475. Freshman Denelle Pedrick set a career best score with a 9.925. Juniors Katy Clements and Macey Hilliker tied their career best on floor with a 9.925. Gianna Plaksa also set a career best with a 9.9 on floor. Illinois State finished on beam with a 48.4.
