First half by the numbers: CMU 28, UNLV 21


Central Michigan football returned to Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Saturday to face the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. At halftime, the Chippewas lead the Rebels 28-21.   

Senior quarterback Cooper Rush has thrown four touchdowns and 255 yards, while the rushing attack has managed only 38 yards. 

The Rebels got on the board first after running back Charles Williams recovered a blocked punt in the end zone five minutes into the game. 

The CMU offense responded by scoring on two of its next three drives. Rush found senior Jesse Kroll for a 30-yard touchdown to tie the game and then found Mark Chapman for a 13-yard touchdown to go up 14-7. Rush surpassed 10,000 career passing yards during the first half.

After a missed 40-yard field goal by Brian Eavey, the Rebels capitalized on an 85-yard touchdown run by Lexington Thomas. 

The Rebels accumulated 122 rushing yards in the first half. They averaged just over 200 yards rushing per game coming into the contest. 

UNLV quarterback Johnny Stanton found Darren Woods Jr. on the very next drive for a 13-yard touchdown. 

With six minutes left, Rush led the offense down the field twice and found Chapman for a 21-yard touchdown and then Corey Willis for a 26-yard touchdown to re-take the lead. 

Chapman has caught four passes for 85 yards and two scores.
