Isabella County Central Dispatch received several calls Thursday regarding vehicles that were broken into in the neighborhood north of Central Michigan University's campus.

Officer Jeff Browne of the Mount Pleasant Police Department said officers received multiple complaints, but only one victim on Main Street filed a report.

Other complainants said their vehicles were broken into along Gaylord and University Streets. One victim told a Central Michigan Life editor $20 was stolen from her vehicle. Another victim said his car was broken into, but nothing was taken from the vehicle.

A resident at 915 S. Main Street found a golf cart key was lodged in the ignition of his 1999 Ford Ranger, but nothing was stolen. The golf cart key belonged to the complainant, and was left in the vehicle.

Browne recommended car owners can take several steps to secure their vehicles at night.

"First thing is to make sure you lock your doors and windows," he said.

Browne also recommended parking the vehicle in a well lit area and keeping valuable belongings out of sight in the vehicle.
