Trump, Sanders win Isabella County, state
Candidates Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders went home March 8 with victories in Michigan as well as in Isabella County in the state's primary election.
Out of 12,343 votes cast in the county, 2,180 votes were cast for Trump, or 35 percent of the votes cast for Republican candidates.
Ted Cruz came in second with 1,685 votes and John Kasich in third with 1,330. Marco Rubio finished with just 704 votes.
Sanders went home with the most votes of any candidate, 4,024, almost double Hillary Clinton's 2,032 in the county.
The results proved to be an upset for the Democrats in a highly contested state. Polls conducted by FOX Detroit, Monmouth University, NBC,CBS and the Wall Street Journal, among others, had shown Clinton defeating Sanders by at least 11 percent.
Sanders took home 65 delegates from Michigan and Clinton 58. Trump won 25, and Cruz and Kasich both won 17.
Clinton won in Mississippi, as did Trump, who also took Hawaii. Ted Cruz won in Idaho.
