Fowler named to All-MAC First Team; Rayson on Third Team
As the Central Michigan men's basketball team prepares for postseason play in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, two players were honored for their play during the regular season.
Senior guard Chris Fowler was named to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive season. In addition, junior guard Braylon Rayson was named to the All-MAC Third Team, which is his first postseason MAC award in his career.
Fowler was named to the First Team All-MAC Preseason Poll before the season. He finished as the MAC Player of the Year runner-up following the 2014-15 season, losing to Buffalo's Justin Moss. He missed the first seven games of the season due to injury, but led the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
The Southfield native ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring, second in assists (5.9 per game) and eighth in steals (1.3 per game). He is CMU's all-time leader in assists (674) and is fifth all time in scoring (1,710 points).
Rayson led the team in scoring for the majority of the season and finished behind Fowler with 16.2 points per game. The Dallas native finished second on the team with 29 steals, but led the team in free-throw percentage with .822 percent (74-of-90).
He placed seventh in the MAC in scoring. He was third in the conference in 3-point field goals made (2.5 per game) and was 15th in 3-point field goal percentage (.383 percent).
The Chippewas received the No. 4 seed in the MAC Tournament and a first-round bye. They will play the winner of Monday's game between No. 12 Bowling Green and No. 5 Kent State on Thursday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
