Rapid Reaction: Western Michigan 92, Central Michigan 85


KALAMAZOO — The Central Michigan men's basketball team erased Western Michigan's six point lead, but couldn't hold the moment. The Chippewas fell to the Broncos on the road Saturday 92-85, dropping CMU to 14-13 and 7-7 in Mid-American Conference play.

Sophomore Luke Meyer hit a jump shot from the free-throw line to tie the game 77-77 with 2:51 to play. WMU went on a 10-0 run to finish off CMU in front of 3,869 fans at University Arena in Kalamazoo.

The Chippewas are now tied for sixth in the conference with Northern Illinois and Toledo.

Senior guard Chris Fowler led the team with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting.

50-50

Both teams shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, with CMU hitting 14-of-28 shots and WMU hitting 17-of-34. The Chippewas had the edge in 3-point shooting and made 10-of-11 first-half free throws compared to 1-of-2 two for the Broncos.

CMU took a 44-40 lead into the break.

The Broncos took control in the second half, hitting 64.3 percent of their shots compared to CMU's 44.7 percent mark.

Scott provides presence down low

Sophomore forward DaRohn Scott scored a career high 10 points Saturday along with gathering a team-high six rebounds. After having three or more fouls in his last six games, Scott didn't up his first foul of the game until the second half. Scott had six points and eight rebounds Tuesday against Toledo.

What's next

Northern Illinois (18-9, 7-7 MAC) comes to McGuirk Arena on Tuesday night after falling to Ball State on the road Friday 63-59. The Huskies beat the Chippewas in the first matchup of the year 75-70 on Jan. 19.
