Rapid Reaction: Central Michigan 53, Western Michigan 51
Tinara Moore's 10th double-double leads CMU to a win against rival Western Michigan
Just as it was meant to be, the Central Michigan Chippewas and the Western Michigan Broncos proved how great of rivals the two teams are.
With multiple hard fouls and tough defense, CMU took down its rivals 53-51.
This was the first of two meetings between CMU (10-8, 5-2 MAC) and WMU (12-8, 4-4 MAC). They will meet up once more as the Chippewas will travel to Western on Feb. 27.
Here are some notable facts from the game:
Hudson heats up
With recent struggles, this was a huge coming out game for the freshman guard from Wayland. In the first half alone she was 4-of-6 from the 3-point line and 14 points. She had four of CMU’s five three-point shots in the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half, she started off slow with one point in the third quarter. Halfway through the fourth quarter, she made a difficult layup while she was falling to the ground, bringing fans to their feet.
She finished with 19 points and not a single minute off the court.
Containing Miracle Woods… for the most part
Coming into the game, Head Coach Sue Guevara talked of WMU’s big players, the most productive being the senior forward Miracle Woods. The Chippewas limited Woods to only four points and one rebound in the first half, when she typically has 13.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
She heated up in the second half, making the last points of the third quarter for WMU, while making the first five buckets for the Broncos in the fourth quarter. She had 18 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes played.
Tinara Moore’s 10th double-double
After having seven straight double-doubles before Saturday’s contest against Akron, the sophomore forward nabbed her 10th of the season halfway through the fourth quarter. She played 38 of the 40 minutes.
Along with her 12 points and 12 rebounds, she also had two key blocks early in the game that helped CMU secure the lead.
Up next for CMU
The Chippewas end their three-game home stand on Saturday, as they welcome Miami (Ohio) (8-10, 2-5 MAC) to McGuirk Arena at 1 p.m.
