Rapid Reaction: Central Michigan 79, Texas Southern 71
In a back-and-forth game that featured 10 lead changes, late 3-point shooting and multiple Chris Fowler drives to the basket helped the Central Michigan men's basketball team to victory.
CMU took down Texas Southern (1-8) 79-71 on Saturday to move to 5-4 on the season, including a 5-0 mark at home.
Junior guard Braylon Rayson dominated from beyond the arc, hitting 6-of-9 3-point attempts, scoring 22 points.
Fowler led the Chippewas in his second game back from injury, scoring 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also had six rebounds and six assists.
Luke Meyer shines early on Star Wars night
Sophomore forward Luke Meyer started the game hot for the Chippewas, collecting the first seven points, along with two rebounds and a block in the opening four minutes of the game. He finished the day with 12 points.
CMU took an 11-point lead less than five minutes into the game as the Tigers didn't score their first field goal until the 15:26 mark in the first half.
Saturday was the Star Wars Night promotion, with halftime interpretive dancers that included lightsabers, a special starting lineup video and more. Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to theaters Friday, Dec. 18.
What's next
The Chippewas will travel to Utah Brigham Young (6-2) this Friday. BYU, from the West Coast Conference, started the season with points in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
The Cougars were 25-10 last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as the 11 seed to No. 11 Ole Miss.
