Greek Week 2015 will be the first time in university history where fraternities and sororities will partner with multicultural fraternities.

"I'm really excited that were able to do this because its a great opportunity to start making connections and be more diverse in our Greek community," said Alex Iovan, Sigma Chi Greek Week representative and Brighton sophomore. "We are with Iota Phi Theta. They’ve should up to all of our meetings and are really excited to be a part of Greek Week."

The week-long celebration of philanthropic events in Greek Life will pair 11 fraternities, 11 sororities and nine multicultural fraternities together to compete to raise awareness and money for the Angel Wings Fund. The competition is tallied through participation during Greek Week events.

Money will be raised through entrance fees to events, online donations and a money war.

The Greek community will be donating all proceeds during Greek Week 2015 to a foundation close to home, the Angel Wing Fund. The foundation was founded by Director of Student Activities and Involvement and Damon Brown's late wife, Keshia Brown.

Fenton sophomore and Sigma Pi Public Relations Representative, Austin Wiskur said the friendly competition is only a small portion of a larger picture that Greek Week represents.

"Obviously the friendly competition is awesome but really it's about putting our whole hearts in the Angel Wings Fund. Being that its local it definitely hits home hard," Wiskur said. "I really can’t even put into words how good it feels to see your efforts go toward something bigger than yourself."

The foundation is designed to help children who have lost a parent to cancer by giving them a college scholarship.

Last year Central Michigan University’s Greek community surpassed its expectations, raising $30,075 for Special Olympics. This year Iovan, the Brighton sophomore, said there is a strong possibility of surpassing last year's amount.

"I definitely think we have the potential to surpass last year's amount, especially now that we’re expanding Greek Week participants," Iovan said. "The bigger Greek Week gets, the more money we're able to raise."

This year's Greek Week theme is Now Albums. Greek chapters are encouraged to utilize the theme during the week-long events. The teams are able to gain points by attending events Sunday, April 12 to Friday, April 17.

Phi Sigma Sigma member and Chicago junior, Gabriela Medina, said Greek Week calls for a lot of preparation.

"Greek Week is something the whole Greek community looks forward to," she said. "Because there are so many events going on, everyone has to be prepared and organized. (My team will) meet everyday during the week to practice and recap on the day's events."

Greek Week will kick off with an all Greek Picture at 6 p.m. Sunday in McGuirk Arena and end with a mock rock at 6 p.m. on Friday.
